Rose Creek is a highly sought after gated neighborhood with amazing homes, top shelf amenities, including water features and an award winning golf course. Nestled in an interesting part of Oklahoma City where Oklahoma City, Edmond and Deer Creek meet, it is a highly sought after area for golfers and families.

But one of my favorite treasures in the neighborhood is Moni's Pasta and Pizza, nestled in the corner of a strip shopping area at NW 172nd and May Avenue. I have known about Moni's since it opened in 2012 but had not tried it until I ran into a true Italian from the east coast that praised it profusely. Her recommendation was so convincing, I made my way there within a few days. And she was correct! It was charming and inviting and most of all had authentic, delicious Italian food!

Moni's has an interesting history and its current owners, Rachel and John Foster have taken that history, and Moni's outstanding traditional recipes from Italy and have created a neighborhood gem.

From Moni's website: "Rachel is a classically trained chef and brings 12 years of restaurant experience to Moni's Edmond, including working under Gordon Ramsey's Sous Chef Gloria Felix in Los Angeles and being the Sous Chef at The Mantle in Bricktown for two years while John brings his business experience to the restaurant.

Bringing a little East Coast style to the south, Moni's Pasta and Pizza is more than just a place to eat, but a dining experience. Our amazing food, strong beer, great wine and superior customer service makes dining at Moni's Edmond unforgettable. Moni's Edmond offers unique taste combinations not available anywhere else in Oklahoma."

I enjoy playing the role of a food critic. The definition of connoisseur I learned many years ago in Napa Valley is: a person who knows what they like and what they don't like. By that definition, I am well qualified as a food connoisseur, if not enthusiast.

Before we ordered, Shelby, our wait staff person told us that every dish served at Moni's is prepared from scratch in the kitchen, except two items on the dessert menu. That made my search for my choice for dinner even more exciting. John shared that every dish is prepared when it is ordered except for the marinara sauce, which Rachel cooks for hours for the perfect blending of flavors.

I have often said that I judge a restaurant by their bread. Well, Moni's bread is some of the best I've ever eaten. As someone who tried unsuccessfully for years to make yeast rolls and bread, I can say Rachel's bread is some of the best I've had; golden brown and crispy on the top and warm and yeasty in the center. I was in heaven.

My friend and I ordered from the seafood entrees. I chose off the menu when I asked for "Pink" sauce - a mixture of marinara and Alfredo with shrimp and fettuccini. Feeling a bit like Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally, I requested ¾ marinara and ¼ Alfredo and Shelby lit up as she said they welcome tweaking their dishes for their customers' preferences. My friend ordered Shrimp Alfredo and raved about the creamy, rich sauce and large shrimp. Moni's has an extensive wine menu and bar and welcome's takeout orders.

I highly recommend Moni's and encourage you to meet Rachel and John. Tell them Debbie sent you! Check out more details about Moni's, as well as their full menu at www.monisokc.com.
