Tulsa County Area Insight

  • The Redbud Valley Nature Preserve and Oxley Nature Center are back open for visitors after Covid-19 restrictions and shutdowns have now been lifted. Hours vary for both sites. The Oxley Nature Center is a great place to explore and take children for a day of discovery and nature. The annual monarch butterfly migration comes through this area and provides a great opportunity to take pictures. There are also programs available throughout the summer for the younger visitors.

The Redbud Valley Nature Preserve is a wide-open area that is great for hiking and viewing wildlife. Check out these two areas to get out into nature.
  • The North American Championship IRONMAN triathlon is coming to Tulsa on May 23rd. The course encompasses some of the best places in Tulsa. A 2.4-mile swim in Keystone Lake, and then a 112-mile bike ride through the hills of Osage County, finishing at the Oklahoma State University. Only to start a 26.2 mile run down Route 66 to the river parks trail along the Illinois River, then back to downtown Tulsa. There are still opportunities to volunteer and help out with this event. The IRONMAN competition focuses the spotlight on the Tulsa area. This is a positive for our community. Check out the link below for more information.
  • Sign-up now for the Virtual Tulsa Collegiate Career Fair on March 10! The Virtual Tulsa Collegiate Career Fair is a multi-university event for students and alumni seeking a full-time job, summer internship, or part-time experience in a variety of industries.
  • Tulsa Botanical Garden is eight miles from downtown Tulsa. An all-season oasis blooming in the Osage Hills is perfect for an outdoor wedding or seasonal family pictures. There is also an area just for the kids to enjoy, The Children's Discovery Garden. Each spring the Garden celebrates with over 100,000 tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, and other spring flowers. The Cross Timbers provides a 1.5-mile hike through the native prairie forest. The Lakeside Promenade gracefully encompasses a seven-acre lake to add to the beauty of the garden.
  • Tulsa County, OK
Cabin Boys Brewery, Marshall Brewing Company, Renaissance Brewery Co., Dead Armadillo Craft Brewing, Prairie Brewpub, Elgin Park, Welltown Brewing, American Solera...the list goes on! Tulsa has become a hub for local craft breweries. Most are located in and around downtown.
There's more to these breweries than just enjoying a cold craft beer. Some have flights so you can sample more than one beer, others have food trucks, games, trivia, events, and seating outdoors (even rooftop) for those beautiful Tulsa days. Happy hours, growlers to refill, and pet-friendly (as well as family friendly!) are not uncommon either. Check their respective web sites for more information.

    Here are my favorites:
    1. Welltown is located downtown on the edge of the Brady District with a rooftop and views of the skyline.
    2. Dead Armadillo Craft Brewing is located between the IDL (Inner Dispersal Loop) and the Pearl District. This summer, go sit in the Boneyard and try the Tulsa Flag...a local favorite.
    3. Cabin Boys Brewery truly started in a little cabin in the woods of Catoosa. Their new home is located right off Utica at 7th Street and still has that cabin feel.
    4. Prairie Brewpub is inside the IDL in the Arts District. A rustic chic taproom, not only do they have great craft beer, but out of this world, over the moon, delicious comfort food.

Get out and enjoy these wonderful establishments while exploring Tulsa!
