The Tulsa Zoo is a magical place for all ages. They have really confirmed to the CDC recommendations to help stop the spread of Covid. You have to go online to purchase your tickets and reserve the time you will be going. They stagger the times to help with maintaining social distancing. They do require masks when you are inside a building and they have handwashing stations through the park.

The zoo itself has unique habitats for the animals with room to spread out. You will enjoy the Rainforest and Reptile Houses along with the lions and tiger and bears. Oh my!

I recently was invited to play a round of golf with my friend David at LaFortune Golf Course. Here we have a par three golf course that is lighted in the evenings so players can enjoy the cooler evenings. A par three is challenging because it really puts your short game to the test and allows for faster play. Under the lights, the 110-yard drive off the tee visually looks like 150+ yards. The shadows and lighting create a challenge to your depth perception and ability to stay on course. For beginning golfers or those of us who love the game, but may only play a few times a year, this creates a competitive environment and hones in the yardage. Check out golf under the lights at LaFortune Park Golf Course.

The Gathering Place in Tulsa is the newest park built on 100 acres and is definitely a must-see when you want to get out and explore what Tulsa has to offer its residents and visitors!
I really enjoyed my visit on an early fall day back before we ever heard of Covid 19. It really is a great place to visit! Great for all ages, but an amazing park for kids! What an absolutely beautiful public park located alongside Riverside Drive. The Gathering Place offers visitors a first-class playground, incredible gardens, separate bike and pedestrian trails, boat, electric scooters and bike rentals, fabulous restaurants, outdoor concerts, as well as many social events. So if you want a great way to enjoy the outdoors, you've got to check it out!

The Tulsa Botanic Garden is eight miles northwest of Tulsa. What a great place to bring the family and enjoy the 170-acre display of trees, annuals, perennials, shrubs, ponds, sculptures, and more. It a great place to see how well various plants thrive in the always-changing Oklahoma climate. Put on your walking shoes, bring your camera, and be sure to bring a refreshing beverage to help keep you hydrated. With so many varieties of plants in bloom, the gardeners deserve kudos for keeping the gardens so well maintained, a real labor of love for sure!

Since I wanted to make sure that I could get admission, I checked the website and found that the garden reopened to the public on June 1. Admission will be limited, and advance tickets will be required. No walk-in admission will be allowed. That was good to know! The physical address of Tulsa Botanic Garden is 3900 Tulsa Botanic Drive, Tulsa, OK 74127.

If you're new to Tulsa or just visiting, be sure to visit the Swan Lake neighborhood and see one of Tulsa's hidden treasures. Tucked away in the midtown area, Swan Lake is a historic district in Tulsa and borders 15th Street to the north, Utica Street to the east, 21st Street to the south, and Peoria Avenue to the west. The Historic District, developed in the early 20th century as a middle-class residential area, features some very well preserved single-family homes, a few duplexes and apartment buildings.

Early on in Tulsa's development, it was the site of an amusement park, but as progress rolled forward it has now become notable for the number and architectural variety of houses and apartment buildings constructed in the 1920s and 1930s. In 2011, the American Planning Association named Swan Lake as a Top Ten Great Neighborhood.
In the midst of all the busy lifestyle of the city, it's a wonderful place to relax and unwind! Check it out sometime, you'll be glad you did!

You can also schedule some lessons from the Tulsa Golf School located at Page Belcher Park. Page Belcher Golf Course has been in play since 1977. Mohawk Park Golf Course is set in North Tulsa in the beautiful and natural Mohawk Park. Located next to the zoo and nature center, it's history dates back to the 1920's. Either way, you cannot go wrong. So get out and play some golf today.

Are you familiar with the Smithsonian located in Washington D.C.? Well Tulsa offers a bit of major history of American West history that is just as good!

The Gilcrease Museum was founded in 1949 by Thomas Gilcrease. Thomas Gilcrease with a lack of formal education growing upturned to books that flourished a love for history. Even though Gilcrease found great success in the oil business, he never lost his love for history. He slowly realized that a feat such as collecting relics and works of art from history was going to be difficult so he turned his interest to his own personal history and heritage that of which is Native American history and culture.

Gilcrease, over the next few years would start his collection of arts, books manuscripts, and more. As the collection grew so did the desire for more. Gilcrease funded his own expedition and collected even more. As the collection grows Gilcrease finds himself wanting to display such amazing pieces of history and opened the Gilcrease Museum for all to enjoy in 1949.

Dropped in at Marina Animal Clinic today and saw a huge Great Dane named "Tiny" and a ferocious little Chihuahua named "Precious." Great Dane was really mellow and nice, the small chihuahua had an attitude problem. Sometimes what you see is not what you get. Kinda like people.

Marina Animal Clinic has been in business in Tulsa for many years and holds a discount vaccination clinic on Tuesdays. I always like to save a buck or two and when it comes to Veterinarian services, Marina is the place. I got a shelter dog and he had Parvo which is deadly in dogs of all ages. Our dog Max wouldn't eat and just wasn't himself. So we loaded him up and took him over to Marina. It's now three days later and our pooch is playful and has his appetite back. I want to personally thank the staff at Marina Animal Care Clinic for all that they do every day to help the animals and their parents in our community. The staff is great and their service is top-notch.

Yes, yes, yes! It is warming up my friends, and springtime is almost upon us. It is time to find the golf clubs in the garage, the closet under the stairs, or where ever they ended up last season. Get them out, clean them, go through your bag, make sure you have tees, and pick up a new sleeve of golf balls because it's time to hit the links!

I got out and was on the driving range this weekend, and it is no secret that it's time to play golf once again. LaFortune Park was a busy place, and everyone was smiles as they buzzed around the club house. If you have not played LaFortune Park Golf Course, or if it has been a while, I encourage you to call up some friends and make time to get some fresh air and exercise in the sun.

The great weather last weekend brought lots of people out to the Gathering Place here in Tulsa. I was out there on Saturday and experienced this fantastic park for myself. Kids and parents were all smiles as they walked around enjoying the facility. There is always something happening here everyday of the week. Lots of biking and scooter rentals had folks buzzing about. The sounds of laughter emitting from the playgrounds are a sure sign that everyone is making positive lasting memories from their experience in the park.

On the overlook, I could see that the water flowing in the Arkansas River was full from past rains. I enjoy taking pictures at the park and watching all of the people having a good time. It feels good to get outside and take a break from all of the negativity we can experience on television and the news. There are bike and scooter rentals available to explore the park and river park trails. The basketball courts are always full of people and catching a pick up game is always welcomed. I saw a lot of families and friends hanging out under the arbors on the benches talking and relaxing. There were also gatherings of people in what looked like a birthday party out on the lawn.

If you have not been out to see The Gathering Place or walk the river trails, take some time to get down there. You will be glad you did.

Tulsa's Mother Road Market is a foodie's dream. It's a building chocked full of one restaurant after another under the same roof. There are over 20 different types of food and retail. You can also pick up fresh produce, meats and dairy, and even take cooking classes so you can continue enjoying the experience and fantastic food at home. You may also want to try anything from the hot chicken to pizza. There are plenty of varieties to sooth the desire of any palate.

The Mother Road Market is located at 11th Street and South Lewis in the 1939 Scrivner-Stevens Company Grocery Building. This concept not only gives foodies a place to explore gastronomically, but it is also a place where food entrepreneurs have an opportunity to share their foods and concepts without investing in a full size restaurant.

This program provides Members of Kitchen 66 an affordable space to develop new recipes. There are also dedicated storefronts within Mother Road Market to feature their latest food concepts at the Kitchen 66 Takeover Cafe and Kitchen 66 General Store. If you are a foodie like I am, you won't want to miss a stop at Mother Road Market but be aware, they are closed on Mondays.

Tulsa offers so much to so many and our botanical garden is no exception! I had the great pleasure of meandering throughout the gardens, taking in the beauty, peace, fountains, ponds, trails and, of course, the children's area, where you could create your own music or paint on a wall with water! They have an event center for special celebrations. If you're looking for something quiet, relaxing and enjoyable, I highly recommend a visit as soon as possible!
  • They call it home of the West Side Burger! Linda Mar Drive-In has the buttered grilled buns and burgers grilled the old fashioned way. A great last stop before heading west on I-44 out of T-Town!
  • If you're heading west on I-44 out of Tulsa, one must stop to eat a legitimate meal before getting on the Turner Turnpike. Arnold’s is the spot! Sporting that classic throw back to the 1950's with pictures of Elvis and Marilyn Monroe you get that classic diner feel! Look for the die cast cars from the movie American Graffiti!
  • Before leaving Tulsa, when on Southwest Boulevard one must visit a true one of a kind restaurant. Ollie's, with a railroad motif that serves up classic American favorites. More trains than can meet the eye! Hanging from the ceiling tiles, train tracks circle the entire restaurant continuously switching different styles of running trains to watch!!

Whether walking, biking, or enjoying a Sunday drive along the Arkansas River, or through her rolling hills, Tulsa has something to offer for everyone.
