I knew that the Phillips Company was huge and did a lot of things. But, I never knew that Waite Phillips, younger brother to Frank Phillips, donated his home in Tulsa to the city of Tulsa and it became the Philbrook Museum of Art. And he also donated 127,000 acres of his ranch, in New Mexico, to the Boy Scouts of America and it became Philmont. I have driven past Philmont outside of Cimarron, New Mexico, countless times in my life on our way to Red River.

The water is coming back up. It is already near where it was Thursday. They are releasing the water out of Copan and Hulah lakes and all of it is heading this way. What I heard today (unofficial) was that the crest is supposed to be at 7:00 p.m. this evening. If it goes any higher some homes in my neighborhood will be flooded. And, insult to injury, it is supposed to rain and storm today.
And my home town Fort Smith? Not good. Three bridges getting in or out of Fort Smith have been shut down and people are being evacuated and homes are being flooded.

Memorial Day weekend is a good time for BBQ’s, swimming, and family. It is an important time to remember the young men and ladies that fought for our country. Because of their efforts and sacrifices we can celebrate Memorial Day however we want.

Memorial Day weekend in Bartelsville is the best time to thank veterans for their sacrifices. Any veteran that reads this, “Thank you for your service.”

Seriously dark to the west. Dark, as in rain coming. The one thing we don't need right now is more water. Another bad thing about all this flooding is that it is heading to Fort Smith, my hometown. My mother is in the 100 year floodplain and 100 year floodway. The Arkansas River is projected to hit a new record of three feet higher than the previous high.

I recently took a road trip to visit the sprawling wildlife preserve located on Highway 123 between Bartlesville and Barnsdall that is Woolaroc Museum & Wildlife Preserve. The event I attended, one of many that attracts visitors to the area, was the Mountain Man Camp. A place where you can view the inside of a teepee and see how people lived in the 1840's, all within the beautiful grounds of Woolaroc. You too can visit it anytime between March 13th to September 3rd. Be sure to check on their website for the many events put on during the year.

Upon entering the Woolaroc grounds, take the two mile drive through the 3,700 acre wildlife preserve and see how many of the more than 30 varieties of native and exotic animals you find.
During my drive through I spotted Water Buffaloes cooling off in a pond, Zebras, Deer, Ostriches, Longhorns, and numerous waterfowl. There were lots of crafts for sale and activities for all ages to enjoy.

All around the museum there are various bronze statues depicting life in the 1800's. Once inside the museum you can see a lifetime of art collections. Mr. Phillips passionately enjoyed traveling the world and sharing his treasures with all. There is a lot to see, so take your time and soak it all in. Make a day of it and take lots of photos, it's surely a relaxing way to spend the day.

Bluestem Cardiology physician, Dr. Dykstra, specializes in cardiovascular disease which is the number one killer. He recently gave a presentation and showed a chart of the US, which was color coded, and Oklahoma had a high percentage of heart disease. This was due to research that shows higher risk factors among African Americans and Native Americans. Based on population, Oklahoma was lit up compared to other states.

If you visit the Bartlesville area, Murphy's Steakhouse is a must! People come from all over the tri-county area to get their Murphy's fix. The restaurant has been a staple in the community for decades. Generations of families have enjoyed a juicy burger, tender ribeyes, fried pork chops, chicken fried steak and more. In fact, I eat there so often I have been nicknamed GOA. But the biggest reason you must try this place is the hot hamburger! It is by far the biggest seller. It consists of thick Texas toast topped with the best hamburger patty around, followed with a mound of homemade French fries and topped with gravy! In fact, the slang phrase that everyone uses is "GOA please" which means "gravy over all". I like my hot hamburger with melted cheese and GOA. Do not leave Bartlesville without experiencing this delicious place! GOA!
