Miami, Oklahoma is the county seat of Ottawa County, the most NE county in Oklahoma and borders Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas. The city of Miami was named after the Miami Indian tribe and is home to tribal offices of several other Indian tribes including the Seneca-Cayuga, Wyandotte, Modoc, Ottawa, Shawnee and Quapaw tribes. There are several Indian Casinos located in the city of Miami as well as Ottawa County.

The population of Miami is 13,700+ and the city is a historic stop along Route 66 HWY. The two year college of Northeastern A&M College (NEO) is located in Miami.

The 1600 seat Coleman Theater is also located in Miami. The theater known as one of the finest of the early 1900's was opened in 1929 at a cost of over $600,000 and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
