History: In the early days, Owasso, was a settlement in the mid-1800s located in the Cherokee Nation of Indian Country. It was originally named Elm Creek. In the 1890s railroad expansion developed the area further with lines that extended south from Bartlesville and ended three miles north of the Elm Creek Settlement where it turned around or created a "Y." at the depot. The Osage Indian word for Owasso means turnaround or the end. During this time many residents and businesses expanded in the area including a general store and post office. The railroad expansion changed the area significantly when extended into Tulsa in 1905. In 1907, once Oklahoma was a state, the population boomed to over 300 occupants.


Population and Schools: Now the town boasts a population of 32,000 people and is one of the best school districts in the state. According to www.Niche.com Owasso School District is #2 in the Tulsa area and #11 in the state of Oklahoma. Overall the school district receives an A- average and maintains an 18:1 student-teacher ratio. For student-athletes Owasso is considered #3 in the state. Owasso High School baseball has a very rich tradition with multiple state titles and the football team is frequently within reach of a state title.


Things to Do: Owasso also has multiple tourist attractions and festivals perfect for a weekend of exploring and family outings. You can watch performances at the Mary Glass Performing Arts Center at the high school. Or visit Funtastic Island and let your kids explore the playground. Local Industries and Commutes: Tulsa is a short 14 miles from Owasso and the average commute time is 15-20 minutes depending on weather and traffic conditions. Over 65% of Owasso residents work in professional, managerial, sales, administration, and financial fields. Owasso has a strong retail sector that also serves some of the outlying towns and rural areas. The leaves are falling in Dover Pond. You clean up the yard one day and the next, it's like someone came and emptied your bags back on the lawn. But what a beautiful time of the year!

It's just about that time of year again. The deer are out in full force in Dover Pond. It won't be long before we get to see the new fawns with the cute little white spots emerging. Watching them follow mom around, not so sure on their feet just yet, is a fun site every year.

What a great neighborhood with spectacular views and tons of wildlife to enjoy. Let's get ready. I'll have some pictures soon of the new fawns as they emerge.

Owasso was chartered as a city in 1972. The city has flourished in size and population. It is a city of character which is one of its biggest draws. According to the National Council for Home Safety and Security for 2017, Owasso was named the second safest city in the state of Oklahoma. That is out of 50 cities that were rated by the council.

Owasso is just outside of Tulsa and offers everything you would ever need in a city from shopping, grocery stores, housing, new construction, and restaurants. If you're coming to the Tulsa area it's well worth your time to check out Owasso.

Enjoy indoor skating, laser tag, an arcade, VIP rooms for parties, a huge play zone, and most important that skating rink! I grew up skating every Friday night and my 30th birthday was even held at a skating rink! What memories! Wheels & Thrills is opening this month! You will have to check it out!

I am so excited to tell you about the best two acres of land ever!! Owasso has almost completed their first dog park!!! Two acres of sod, equipped with bull pen, drinking fountains, trees, and of course, places to deposit the... doggie deposit! What an awesome community Owasso is. I can't wait to take my Pixie girl and O'Connel there to play! Just one more reason to move here! The 2017 Owasso FFA Car Show will be held Saturday, August 19th from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Owasso High School! Registration is from 7:00-9:00 a.m., and it costs $25 the day of the event or $20 if preregistered. General Admission is free and there will be vendors of all kinds, a free kid zone, inflatables and of course enough horse power to satisfy any car enthusiast!

As if our parks weren't enough... all the shopping and restaurants... excellent schools.... Owasso finally has the coup de bras: Wheels and Thrills Family Entertainment Center!! I, for one, cannot wait until opening day!! My kids and I will be there with bells on! Equipped with skating lessons, laser tag, arcade, and a play zone, Wheels and Thrills lacks nothing for great family fun time!

What, What? Owasso has money trees you say? I have been watching this one for three years but no money yet (see the picture I posted). Growing tall and full compared to when I found it, but no buds. Anyone able to tell me when it starts blooming hundreds?

On April 6th, downtown Owasso kicks off the season! "Gathering on Main" brings Owasso together through entertainment, music, street food, vendors and fun! This family friendly street style festival
is held on the first Thursday of each month from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. This is a family friendly street style festival. Hope to see you there.

The Owasso Fireworks show is planned for Friday July 4, 2014. The fun will start around 9-9:30 (when its completely dark). Fireworks are being set off at The Greens. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets for a great night with your friends and neighbors.

There are were three great concert scheduled for June in Stone Canyon! Three different groups, Cold Heart Band, Just Us Band and Something Steel, presented fun and diverse evenings of music. There will be a wonderful patriotic Freedom Festival in early July. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy an evening of fun! Check the attached link for the schedule of upcoming events.

Come out tonight, Thursday, June 5th from 6:00-9:00pm on Main Street. You will get to enjoy live music from Weston & The Outsiders and a giant LED movie truck showing a full length film, The Outsiders. There will be more than 100 street vendors, 21 food trucks, a farmers market, kids zone, classic cars, photo-ops, movie extras, street performers and more. It all comes together on Main Street. Come check it out!

Come join the Owasso community for the Just Breathe Cystic Fibrosis 5k and Fun Run onJune 7, 2014. When you pre-register, the 5K is $25 and includes a t-shirt, the Fun Run is $15 and includes a t-shirt. The Fun Run begins at 8:30am and the 5K starts at 9:00am. This is a great opportunity to see the community come together for a great cause.
