Nestled in Tulsa's concrete jungle downtown, numerous murals have become one of Tulsa's best-kept secrets. You just can't help noticing the artistic ability, stunning colors, and the messages within the art. Each of these murals makes our downtown fantastic! They add pizazz to building walls and streets that would otherwise go unnoticed by both locals and tourists. Without a doubt, the muralists have made inroads in creating a strong, community connection to events and historical aspects through the use of public art. So, if you are ever wondering what to do in Tulsa, think about doing an art crawl. With these murals, you just won't be disappointed!

After an unseasonable and record-setting cold spell, the big thaw is happening today. Water is everywhere as the snow quickly melts away. Warmer temperatures and clear skies are favorable to direct sunlight appearing to melt away the snow.

The Tulsa Zoo is a magical place for all ages. They have really conformed to the CDC recommendations to help stop the spread of Covid. You have to go online to purchase your tickets and reserve the time you will be going, and they stagger the times to help maintain social distancing. The zoo also requires masks be worn when you are inside a building, and they have hand-washing stations throughout the park.

The zoo itself has unique habitats for the animals with room to spread out. You will enjoy the Rainforest and Reptile Houses along with the lions, tigers, and bears...oh my!

I recently was invited to play a round of golf with my friend David at LaFortune Golf Course. Here we have a par three golf course that is lighted in the evenings so players can enjoy the cooler evenings. A par three is challenging because it really puts your short game to the test and allows for faster play. Under the lights, the 110-yard drive off the tee visually looks like 150+ yards. The shadows and lighting create a challenge to your depth perception and ability to stay on course. For beginning golfers or those of us who love the game, but may only play a few times a year, this creates a competitive environment and hones in the yardage. Check out golf under the lights at LaFortune Park Golf Course.

The Gathering Place in Tulsa is the newest park built on 100 acres and is definitely a must-see when you want to get out and explore what Tulsa has to offer its residents and visitors! I really enjoyed my visit on an early fall day back before we ever heard of Covid 19. It really is a great place to visit!

Great for all ages, but an amazing park for kids! What an absolutely beautiful public park located alongside Riverside Drive. The Gathering Place offers visitors a first-class playground, incredible gardens, separate bike and pedestrian trails, boat, electric scooters and bike rentals, fabulous restaurants, outdoor concerts, as well as many social events. So if you want a great way to enjoy the outdoors, you've got to check it out!

The Tulsa Botanic Garden is eight miles northwest of Tulsa. What a great place to bring the family and enjoy the 170-acre display of trees, annuals, perennials, shrubs, ponds, sculptures, and more. It a great place to see how well various plants thrive in the always-changing Oklahoma climate. Put on your walking shoes, bring your camera, and be sure to bring a refreshing beverage to help keep you hydrated. With so many varieties of plants in bloom, the gardeners deserve kudos for keeping the gardens so well maintained, a real labor of love for sure!

Since I wanted to make sure that I could get admission, I checked the website and found that the garden reopened to the public on June 1. Admission will be limited, and advance tickets will be required. No walk-in admission will be allowed. That was good to know! The physical address of Tulsa Botanic Garden is 3900 Tulsa Botanic Drive, Tulsa, OK 74127.

If you're new to Tulsa or just visiting, be sure to visit the Swan Lake neighborhood and see one of Tulsa's hidden treasures. Tucked away in the midtown area, Swan Lake is a historic district in Tulsa and borders 15th Street to the north, Utica Street to the east, 21st Street to the south, and Peoria Avenue to the west. The Historic District, developed in the early 20th century as a middle-class residential area, features some very well preserved single-family homes, a few duplexes and apartment buildings.

Early on in Tulsa's development, it was the site of an amusement park, but as progress rolled forward it has now become notable for the number and architectural variety of houses and apartment buildings constructed in the 1920s and 1930s. In 2011, the American Planning Association named Swan Lake as a Top Ten Great Neighborhood.
In the midst of all the busy lifestyle of the city, it's a wonderful place to relax and unwind! Check it out sometime, you'll be glad you did!

Are you familiar with the Smithsonian located in Washington D.C.? Well, Tulsa offers a bit of major history of American West history that is just as good! Founded by oilman Thomas Gilcrease, the Gilcrease Museum houses the most comprehensive collection of art of the American West in the nation. Although he had little formal education, Gilcrease turned to books that inspried his love for history. While Gilcrease found great success in the oil business, he never lost his love for history. He slowly realized that collecting relics and historical works of art going to be difficult, so he turned his interest to his own personal culture and heritage. His mother was a member of the Muscogee Creek Nation, so he decided to pursue art of indigenous cultures in North and South America. Over the years Gilcrease collected of painting, sculptures, books, manuscripts, and more. As the collection grew, so did his desire for more. Gilcrease funded his own expeditions and eventually opend the Gilcrease Musuem in 1949 so all could enjoy his amazing pieces of history.

Dropped in at Marina Animal Clinic today and saw a huge Great Dane named "Tiny" and a ferocious little Chihuahua named "Precious." Great Dane was really mellow and nice, the small chihuahua had an attitude problem. Sometimes what you see is not what you get. Kinda like people.

Marina Animal Clinic has been in business in Tulsa for many years and holds a discount vaccination clinic on Tuesdays. I always like to save a buck or two and when it comes to Veterinarian services, Marina is the place. I got a shelter dog and he had Parvo which is deadly in dogs of all ages. Our dog Max wouldn't eat and just wasn't himself. So we loaded him up and took him over to Marina. It's now three days later and our pooch is playful and has his appetite back. I want to personally thank the staff at Marina Animal Care Clinic for all that they do every day to help the animals and their parents in our community. The staff is great and their service is top-notch.

Yes, yes, yes! It is warming up my friends, and springtime is almost upon us. It is time to find the golf clubs in the garage, the closet under the stairs, or where ever they ended up last season. Get them out, clean them, go through your bag, make sure you have tees, and pick up a new sleeve of golf balls because it's time to hit the links!

I got out and was on the driving range this weekend, and it is no secret that it's time to play golf once again. LaFortune Park was a busy place, and everyone was smiles as they buzzed around the club house. If you have not played LaFortune Park Golf Course, or if it has been a while, I encourage you to call up some friends and make time to get some fresh air and exercise in the sun.
