Centered in the heart of Tulsa you will find an art museum with expansive formal gardens showcasing art from all over the world. You can even spot a Picasso on the museum walls! The Philbrook Art Museum was the former home of Oklahoma oil pioneer Waite Philips and his wife Genevieve. Mr. Phillips commissioned architect Edward Buehler Delk to design the mansion in 1926; construction started that year by the John Long company of Kansas City and was completed the following year. The home is made of stucco on the exterior, including ground white marble in the mix, causing it to glitter in the sunlight resembling Italian travertine. Inside the mansion features 72 rooms with marble fireplaces, fountains, floors of teak, walnut, and oak ceilings resembling Italian villas. The museum sits on 25 acres of lavish gardens inspired by an Italian country estate north of Rome. These gardens host many parties and weddings throughout the year. The museum is open for business 9-5 Wednesday through Sunday and is closed on major holidays.
