Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler has been an Oklahoma City favorite since 1971 when Johnnie Haynes opened the first location on Britton Road. Prior to this location, Johnnie managed the famous Split-T, formerly on Western Avenue. The Split-T was an iconic OKC burger restaurant and bar dating back to the early 1950s. The second Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler location, on South 33rd Street in Edmond, is just down the road from our Cheyenne Ridge neighborhood, Over the years his charcoal broiler has reached seven different locations across the OKC metro area. Growing up, we looked forward to a theta burger with that famous Johnnie's sauce, on Sundays after church, or when meeting up with family and friends over a tall stack of onion rings. As adults, it's the place we go anytime my brother's family visits from Kansas City, or a great way to quickly make everyone happy when dad is left in charge of the dinner plans. For the OKC metro communities, Johnnie's Charcoal Broiler has become synonymous with delicious food, dear friends, and family.
