Northwestern Oklahoma State University (NWOSU) was originally started in Alva, Oklahoma serving rural areas of Northwestern Oklahoma. However, in 1996 legislation voted to open campuses in Enid and Woodward. These campuses offered their first classes during the 1996-97 academic year. In 2016, the State Regents authorized Northwestern to offer its first doctoral program in nursing practice graduating its first class on May 9, 2020. Northwestern Oklahoma State University is a public regional university that has received national acclaim for its combination of high-quality academic program and affordability. While Northwestern primarily serves the vast geographical area of northwest Oklahoma and the Panhandle, its students come from over 40 states and 20 countries. Ranger sports are a very important part of NWOSU. From baseball, softball, basketball, golf, track and field, rodeo, soccer, volleyball, and cheering. NWOSU is very competitive and has won various championships throughout the years.
