Leonardo's Children's Museum is a non-profit museum that entertains and inspires children since 1995. Families and schools choose Leonardo's to bring their children to for its hands-on art and science projects. Across the street is Leonardo's Adventure Quest which is the world's largest community-built outdoor playground. If you are looking for an 18-hole golf course that is fun and challenging, check out Meadowlake Golf Course in Enid, OK. It is a public golf course that is open year-round. Originally designed in the 1940s, the course has gone through different design changes throughout the years. The golf course has a beautiful style layout with tree-lined fairways with large bentgrass greens and a stream that meanders along and over waterways that feed into Meadowlake pond and park. The golf course sits on 130 acres and is adjacent to Meadowlake Park, together making up a large and beautiful green space in Enid and a habitat for an abundance of wildlife.

With a population today of approximately 50,000 people, Enid was founded in 1893 after the Cherokee Strip Land Run. President Grover Cleveland designated September 16, 1893 as the date of the "run" for 6 million acres. On that day, 100,000 people gathered for the land run into the Cherokee Outlet. The potential settlers awaited cavalry soldiers' gunshots to start the biggest land rush in the United States with over 40,000 homesteads claimed. Originally named "Skeleton Station," the name was changed to Enid from a character named Enid, in Alfred, Lord Tennyson's Idylls of the King.

Enid Kicks off its Christmas season the day after Thanksgiving with its annual "Light Up The Plains" ceremony. Thousands every year flock downtown to enjoy the festivities. Enid is proud to be the sponsor of the Worlds Largest Christmas Tree for the past two years which has been recognized around the world. It is a magical night full of fun for the entire family. Activities include special musical performances, food trucks, horse-drawn wagon rides, a Christmas lights parade, Santa Clause, ice skating at Holidays on Ice, the one Christmas Tree lighting, and the fireworks grand finale! It is a must-see.

If you want a great assortment of coffee's, pastries, and fabulous lunch choices, then the Five80 Coffeehouse is the place. It's located in downtown Enid, and is open Monday through Saturday. I highly recommend giving it a try!

Northwestern Oklahoma State University (NWOSU) was originally started in Alva, Oklahoma serving rural areas of Northwestern Oklahoma. However, in 1996 legislation voted to open campuses in Enid and Woodward. These campuses offered their first classes during the 1996-97 academic year. In 2016, the State Regents authorized Northwestern to offer its first doctoral program in nursing practice graduating its first class on May 9, 2020.

Northwestern Oklahoma State University is a public regional university that has received national acclaim for its combination of high-quality academic program and affordability. While Northwestern primarily serves the vast geographical area of northwest Oklahoma and the Panhandle, its students come from over 40 states and 20 countries.

Ranger sports are a very important part of NWOSU. From baseball, softball, basketball, golf, track and field, rodeo, soccer, volleyball, and cheering. NWOSU is very competitive and has won various championships throughout the years.

Did you know that Enid is considered the "Wheat Capital" of the United States? It has the third largest wheat storage capacity in the entire world! Originally named "Skeleton," many have argued how its name was changed to "Enid".

Is Enid a good place to live? Well according to a study from Chamberofcommerce.org, researchers looked at over 2,500 cities across the U.S. and ranked the top 10 in each state by livability, using five criteria, according to the website, and Enid came out on top on June 21, 2019.

With a population of approximately 50,000, Enid has two colleges, a vocational technical center, and a beauty college. It also has a 5,000-seat arena that is home to world-class concerts, athletic events, trade shows, conventions, and large banquets.

Enid is right where the paths of the Chisholm Trail and Cherokee Strip Land Run cross with a museum that focuses on its heritage.

Overall, Enid is considered a family community with friendly residents, fine restaurants, many parks, and city events throughout the year.

Northern Oklahoma College (NOC) located in Enid, OK, is an accredited, two-year, liberal arts institution. It was founded in 1999 after NOC Tonkawa expanded its campus in Enid after buying it from former Phillips University. NOC provides technological advances in multiple online and interactive television courses that serve students from rural and remote areas. NOC is nationally recognized by the Aspen Institute In Washington DC as being in the top ten percent of community colleges in the country. NOC also has a competitive athletic program that includes men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, and cheerleading teams.

Get free library cards for your whole family. The library has so many books, computers to use, and activities to do. Starting July 1st, 2022 they will have free lunches for kids 18 and under from 12:00-1:00 p.m. How awesome is that! My kids love coming here.

This place is excellent for a day of family fun! My kids have the absolute best time here. We have memberships, so we can go any day we want. They have a construction area, animals to pet and learn about, a mini grocery store so kids can play pretend, a paint area, a play gym, a doctor's office, and so much more!!!! Go check it out.

The Public Library of Enid and Garfield County, founded in 1899, is a public library located in Enid, Oklahoma, the county seat of Garfield County, Oklahoma. It is the largest public library in northwest Oklahoma, serving a city and county population of 65,000. The library provides many services for adults, teens, and young children. It has access to federal and state documents, genealogy and local history, personal finance, and U.S. Citizenship and language learning. It also provides Story Time for children to explore literature through stories, rhymes, and songs. Summer programs, homework help, and virtual library are just a few other programs offered. The Enid Public Library is a great learning spot for the community.

Spirit Express Cheer & Tumbling Academy has been around for 17 years in Enid, OK. Not only does it provide Competitive Cheerleading & Recreational Tumbling classes, but it also has a wonderful playground for birthday parties for kids. I was lucky enough to attend a birthday party with my grandson. It was a wonderful time.

Are you wondering what Enid is all about? The details below are in my opinion only. I hope it helps to paint the picture for you.

The weather is extreme here. It is usually either very hot or very cold, and windy or perfect. Or, it can be all four in one day! I always send my kids to school with a sweatshirt they can peel off by the lunch hour! Enid doesn't seem to have many issues with tornadoes. We get high winds and hail, but that is about it. I have lived here for over 19 years, and have never had to go down into the storm shelter. I do recommend tornado insurance just in case. If you want peace of mind, you can add a storm shelter in a garage or outside a home for $3,000 or more depending on the size.

The crime in Enid is relatively low. I feel super safe here. It's a great place to raise a family or retire! When we were stationed in Korea, I knew over a dozen people that had once been stationed in Enid at Vance Air Force Base that someday wanted to return to Enid because it was one of their favorite places to live.

The people are so nice here! There is a church on every corner and people are friendly, neighborly, and welcoming! I have a lot of military clients move to Enid because of the Air Force Base here and I warn them to allow an extra five minutes just to talk to the cashier at the grocery store because they will talk to your ear off! I am from the west coast and so it was a noticeable change for me. The crime here mostly consists of domestic disputes, drug or alcohol-related incidents, and petty theft. I rarely hear about a murder or break-in, but most people lock their doors at night now. I would not leave any vehicles unlocked with purses or other valuables in them because they could get stolen. We rarely see homeless people on the northwest side of town. Once in a while, one might wander in that direction but will be removed after a day or two.

Enid consists of a farming/agricultural, oil, and gas community with two big hospitals and Vance Air Force Base. Due to the base, there is a lot of turnover, but for the most part, everyone is welcoming! Vance AFB is primarily a pilot training base with supporting operations. Here, the base is involved with the community and gives back. The locals appreciate the military families stationed here and thank them for their service often! Don't forget to ask for your "military discount" at restaurants and businesses that are offered!

Enid is the "hub" of central Oklahoma. We are surrounded by a bunch of small towns, so everybody will drive to Enid to shop at Lowe's, Walmart, Academy, and more. They also come to eat out at restaurants, breweries, and to participate in other events or activities. Enid is a perfect size, yet growing. Traffic is tolerable, with only a handful of stoplights to pass through. There's a 15-20 minute radius in any direction to get across town.

We like to make a day trip to Oklahoma City or Edmond to shop or hit the larger stores and other restaurants! It's about an hour and 10 minutes away. Wichita, Kansas and Tulsa are only a couple of hours away. Furthermore, there are several options of airports to search for affordable travel. We fly out of OKC, Wichita, or Tulsa and sometimes Dallas or Houston, depending on where you're going!

Enid is growing to the northwest and northeast. That's where the newer development and neighborhoods are. There's limited inventory too for homes if you want newer. They just can't build them fast enough!

We only have two public school districts in Enid, then the surrounding towns have their own smaller schools. There are private schools in Enid to include (elementary level): Emmanuel, St. Francis, Cimarron Montessori, (Middle and High School) Oklahoma Bible Academy. The NW and NE Chisholm School District currently require that you live in the district in order to send your student(s) there. Chisholm is currently an A+ rated public school for all levels: elementary, middle, and high school. Enid Public Schools have several great elementary schools (on the NW side of town) and there are several middle schools, but only one is average (also on the NW side.) Enid High School has an F rating and it's the only high school in the Enid District for now.

So you see, there is a huge demand to live on the NW side of town and even more of a demand to live in the Chisholm School District if schools ratings are of importance. However, it's important to know which school district will fit your student's needs the best because the Chisholm vs Enid Middle and High Schools offer two very different extracurricular/athletic options. Only Enid offers soccer, wrestling, swimming, and tennis. Enid also has a more serious band program as well as accelerated classes that count towards college credits. Chisholm has accelerated courses too, but they don't count for college credits. The last thing to mention is that Enid Middle and High are much larger in size and diversity than the smaller Chisholm District.

I'm not a political person, but it's safe to say that Oklahoma is more of a Republican state. We like to have our right to bear arms and be able to protect ourselves. It's very common for people to have a concealed carry license or you'll just see people with their holsters on. I guess that's why we don't have many problems! There are lots of hunters and farmers too.

Really, in my opinion, Enid is more country than city, but everything you need is nearby!

If you and your girlfriends are looking for a fun girl's night out, you will definitely want to go to a Tipsy Artist painting class. The Tipsy Artist is a professional painter who teaches beginners and advanced painters alike how to paint simple, yet bold paintings, all while enjoying a glass of wine if you wish (if you are 21 or older, of course) and some delicious food. The Tipsy Artist teaches all over the state and she will be in Enid on July 28 at the Enid Event Center from 6-9 p.m. This Paint Party is fun to be had by all!

If you love a good concert, Enid is the town for you! At the Enid Event Center and Convention Hall, there is almost always a good concert to go see, plus, the tickets aren't overpriced and every seat is a good seat. The Event Center has hosted many, many concerts featuring new up-and-comers to big-time stars.

This Friday, June 26, 2015, Martina McBride will be hitting the stage for all the concert goers in and around Enid. This country music star is sure to please!

Some upcoming concerts include: The Red Dirt Rally featuring The Great Divide, Bo Phillips, Bobby Dale, and Casey Pilgreen. Celtic Woman, and Casting Crowns with Lauren Daigle are more bands that will be performing soon.

Located on Van Buren, Tropical Smoothie Cafe is a new place in Enid for health nuts to gather for a delicious healthy lunch or to grab a smoothie. They offer a huge variety of wraps, sandwiches, and smoothies, all made with fresh fruits and vegetables for a filling, but extremely healthy meal. They also offer tons of add in options for smoothies to make them even more healthy than they already are. This is the place to go if you are looking for a new, healthy, unique place to grab a bite to eat.

The 90 degree weather is now upon us! Summer is not officially here yet, but with the temperatures sky-rocketing, it might as well be. The best way to beat the summer heat is by cooling off in some nice, cool water. One of the best places to do that is at Enid's own Splash Zone. Splash Zone is a rather small, fairly priced, family friendly water park here in Enid. It has a large pool, a few different water rides, a lazy river, and a shallow children's play area. The park also has a concession stand in case you get hungry or thirsty, plenty of chairs to lay out on, and many pavilions available for use. Splash Zone is a perfect place to cool off for the day without having to drive too far or spend an arm and a leg to get in!

The longer I live in Enid, (going on four years now) the fonder I grow of the downtown area. My day feels happier if I can get all of my meetings, eating and shopping done downtown rather than venturing out to the big chain stores and traffic on Garriott. Speaking of happy, one of my favorite little shops for finding perfect gifts, or just killing a little time is the Felt Bird on Independence. The owners are marvelous people and the merchandise is, well, quirky. They have everything from Enid t-shirts and Toms to jewelry, home decor, humor gifts and more. They offer a military discount and best of all, are open on Mondays when many other downtown stores are closed!

Northern Oklahoma College is a wonderful community college with the main location being in Tonkawa, with branches in Enid and Stillwater.

The Enid campus is the second largest of the three, with approximately 1,200 students attending each semester. NOC - Enid offers multiple student clubs and organizations including Civitans, Multicultural Student Association, Literature Club, etc. Sports offered include baseball, softball, men's and women's basketball, and cheerleading. NOC offers a number of different two-year degree programs. If you are looking for a place to further your education, look no further than NOC.

When I'm in the mood for Italian (or I ask my daughter where she wants to go eat for lunch), Napoli's is at the top of the list. The location is top-notch: downtown, and directly across the street from the Enid Convention Center and the David Allen Memorial Ball Park. The historic building provides a great atmosphere, the service is friendly, prices are reasonable and last but not least, the food is always tasty! They bring out fresh, warm bread right away and this is no doubt why my daughter is hooked....me too, really.
