Oklahoma City is the largest city in Oklahoma, offering a mix of urban and suburban lifestyles. The city has a thriving job market, a diverse food scene, and a variety of cultural and recreational activities.
Will Rogers Gardens is a hidden gem, located at the corner of 36th Street and Portland Avenue. This 30-acre park was originally one of the four "crown jewels," four parks connected by Grand Boulevard, circling the old outer edges of Oklahoma City. The land was originally purchased by the city in 1912 and was used as a dairy farm. In 1921, the park became the home of the Oklahoma City Council of Garden Clubs. The Council continues to offer classes today that promote horticulture, flower gardening, and conservation. Will Rogers Gardens is part of Will Rogers Park. Today it features a fun family aquatics center, a disk golf course, a 24-court Oklahoma City Tennis Center, and one of Oklahoma City's two senior adult recreation centers. Both the park and the gardens have been enjoyed by my family and many others that call Oklahoma City home.
